Behind the story of Zael

The typography industry is a USD 13 Million industry, where illegal downloads and usage of fonts deprive typographers of valuable income. One of them is a leading Arabic Typographer, Ibrahim Hamdi, who is now diagnosed with Keratoconus - rapidly losing his eyesight. While his fonts have been downloaded by many, he's never received any of the profits, that could have been pivotal in funding his surgery. We launched 'Zael, the Disappearing'. A font that loses clarity as its creator loses his eyesight.

About Zael

Zael's awarded in Dubai Lynx (1 Silver and 2 Bronze) and shortlisted in multiple categories, Also awarded a Wood Pencil award in D&AD 2024, Recently Zael's won a bronze in Cannes Lions 2024.

Zael is an eye-catching Arabic display typeface designed with a thick base inspired by the Naskh script, making it visually appealing for screens and headlines. This typeface takes inspiration from classic Naskh calligraphy but incorporates modern touches, making it well-suited for contemporary designs. It is an excellent choice for creating captivating posters and visuals that seamlessly align with modern brands.

Zael's letterforms are crafted based on pre-experimental lettering by Ibrahim Hamdi. It was design a complete typeface with harmonious and consistent posed a significant challenge. Zael's was designed in October 2023, and it's including OpenType features, and support for additional languages such as Urdu, Persian, and Kurdish.
